MILKA RAKITA born KECMAN
Milka Kecman was born on 3 September 1924 in Drinic, nearby Bosanski Petrovac. She participated in People's Liberation War from 1941 till 1945. She fought in 3rd Krajina Brigade from it's forming 1942 till the end of war. She participated in many battles as nurse and sanitary officer, and she was also wounded. Some known battles Milka participated: March on Igman, Neretva, Sutjeska, Raid On Drvar, Sremski Front, liberation of Belgrade... As one of the first people who joined Partisans, she received a memorial order. That's my grandma Milka's war story. She didn't like to boast and she didn't talk much about her partisan days. So I will keep it short. I remember, when I was child, a friend of family came with an article from newspapers. It was an article about partisan fighter who survived by eating tree cortex and shoe soles. It was an article about my grandma. I want to dedicate this web-site to my grandma Milka, comrade Josip Broz Tito and all other partisans who gave us happy and care-free childhood and freedom. There are many stories about partisans and Tito - some positive, some negative. I always remember what my grandma once said. When I visited her last time, I asked "Did you know or met Tito?". "Did I met him?! I fought with him in battles shoulder to shoulder. And you must know something, these stories some people tell about Tito now are bunch of lies. He fought together with us, he was never hiding. He was equal to us and we shared with him all good and bad moments." After death of country she fought for, death of both of her daughters, many health problems (being wounded, having no food and surviving strong winters during WW II), grandma's heart stopped beating 10 June 2007. Milka Rakita born Kecman was buried on Atheist graveyard, Bare, Sarajevo 13 June 2007.
